The ‘Vision Zero’ promoted by the European Commission in the field of occupational safety and health, must remain the main objective for a healthy workforce, a safe workplace and a well-functioning labour market.
Considering the current shortage of workers and the need for improving the attractiveness of the sector construction companies should continue to place health and safety of their workers at the core of their attention.
When elaborating or adapting the occupation safety and health legislation, the EU must take into account specific sectoral circumstances and needs, including an adequate period of adaptations for companies.
The EU should simplify and make the existing health and safety legislative framework more easily enforceable without lowering the level of protections for workers and companies and envisage incentives for virtuous companies.
The EU should promote and support initiatives aimed at developing a culture of prevention amongst construction companies and workers.
